gearSetup Guide

  1. Download and Smart Thumbnails from the package manager

  2. Then you can Patch All editors

Updating Smart Thumbnails

When a new version of Smart Thumbnails is released, we recommend uninstalling the old version first.

How to Uninstall

Go to the Unity toolbar: Game Creator > Uninstall > Smart Thumbnails

After uninstalling, you can safely install the latest version.

Patching Editors

When installing Smart Thumbnails, a window will appear that allows you to patch the editors of supported Game Creator modules so they can display Smart Thumbnails correctly.

Patching During Installation

After installing Smart Thumbnails, a setup window will appear listing all supported module editors. From this window you can:

  • Patch editors individually by selecting the specific modules you want to update.

  • Use Patch All to automatically patch every supported editor at once.

This ensures Smart Thumbnails integrates properly with those editors.

Patching Editors Later

If you skip this step or need to patch again later, you can reopen the patching tool at any time from the Unity toolbar:

Game Creator → Smart Thumbnails

When You Need to Patch Again

You may need to patch editors again if:

  • You reinstall a Game Creator module

  • You update a Game Creator module

Re-patching ensures Smart Thumbnails remains compatible with the latest version of the editors.

Project Window Layout Limitation

Smart Thumbnails only works when the Unity Project Window is using the Two Column layout with icon previews.

It does not work in the One Column (Tree View) layout.
